Understanding Drawing Responsibilities in PEB Projects

In the world of steel structures (PEB / Hot Rolled), building a successful project requires more than just land and investment. The foundation of every project lies in the drawings — and in knowing exactly who is responsible for preparing them.

There are always two main parties involved:

  • The local consultant engineer → ensures compliance with local codes, soil conditions, and site planning.
  • The manufacturer / fabrication company → delivers all structural steel details, fabrication, and erection drawings.

In this article from Hasanoglu, we explain clearly: Who draws what?

The Role of the Local Consultant Engineer

The consultant in the client’s country is responsible for all site-related and legal aspects. Their main deliverables include:

  • Site Plan: Position of the building on the plot, distances from streets and boundaries, wind and sun orientation.
  • Soil Report: Provided by a certified geotechnical office, defining soil bearing capacity for foundation design.
  • Foundation Drawings: Dimensions, depths, and reinforcement details of the concrete foundations.
  • Architectural Drawings: If the project requires offices, facilities, or internal divisions.
  • MEP Preliminary Drawings: Initial electrical and mechanical layouts to coordinate openings and services within the steel structure.

The Role of the Manufacturer / Fabrication Company

Once the foundations are defined, the manufacturer prepares all steel-related details and workshop documentation, including:

  • General Arrangement Drawing (GA Drawing): Overall layout of the steel structure with dimensions, elevations, and openings.
  • Anchor Bolt Plan: Exact locations and sizes of anchor bolts, sent early to be embedded in the foundations.
  • Shop Drawings: Detailed fabrication drawings for each element — columns, rafters, plates, and bolts.
  • Connection Details: Specifications for bolted or welded joints, stiffeners, and gusset plates.
  • Roof & Wall Sheeting Layout: Distribution of cladding panels (sandwich panels or corrugated sheets) including skylights, doors, and windows.
  • Erection Drawings: Step-by-step site assembly drawings showing erection sequence and crane directions.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM / BOQ): Complete list of steel members, bolts, and cladding materials with weights and quantities.
  • Consultant Engineer = Soil, foundations, site plan, local code compliance.
  • Manufacturer / Fabrication Company = Steel details, fabrication, shop drawings, erection.

When responsibilities are clearly divided, the client benefits from accurate execution, smooth workflow, and a successful steel project.

At Hasanoglu, we ensure full coordination with local consultants, delivering all required steel structure drawings and fabrication details to guarantee precise and professional project completion.

note:Before starting your steel structure project, make sure you have all drawings from both sides — consultant and manufacturer. This is the real key to success.
